Indian Open 2024 - Medals for UK Pros!
In its second year, orgainised by Global Sports, the Indian Open 2024 took place in Mumbai with $100,000 of prize money at stake.
Dubbed “Asia’s biggest ever pickleball event”, many players from the UK traveled to compete for medals among other pros from the USA and around the world.
The UK contingent did more than show up, however, bringing home a host of medals for their efforts.
The performance of the Open most certainly went to Kao Pei Chuan who brought home the UKs only gold medal after beating Thaddea in the semi-final before beating Emilia Schmidt, Australia’s triple crown national champion and a recent medallist on the PPA tour.
In the women’s doubles Thaddea and Pei stormed their way to the final where they came up against the formidable opponents and top US Pros, Megan Fudge and Susannah Barr. Thaddea and Pei were unable to get the job done in the final and came home with a silver.
Earlier the same day, in the 35+ women’s doubles, Thaddea Lock teamed up with Isha Lakhani to claim another silver before once again losing to Megan Fudge and Susannah Barr in the final.
Other medals for UK players included a bronze for Julie McCauley (paired with Atul Edward) in the 50+ Open mixed doubles, a bronze for Tom Turney (paired with Carlos Perez) in the 35+ Open men’s doubles and yet another bronze for Emma Wrixon in the advanced women’s singles.
Here’s a roundup of the results.

Pickleball graces the Super Bowl!
Pickleball managed to get some airtime during the Super Bowl commercial breaks this year as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22.
The Super Bowl has long been the most expensive ad real estate on television with brands paying around $7 million for 30 seconds of ad space!
And how did Morgan Staley decide to spend that $7 million? With a 30-second Ad sponsoring their finance company E*TRADE, featuring America’s fastest-growing sport.
The ad named “Picklebabies” features two baby pickleballers against 2 adults. “It’s basically tennis for babies, but for adults,” says one of the picklebabies.

“The team have played some incredible pickleball from the start of the league and throughout. All players have really stepped up to the plate when called upon.
We’ve had some tough games and dreambreakers over the 2023/24 season, but ultimately every player has played superbly.
It’s been a real honour to see them on the court and watch them individually grow as players and collectively as a team.”
Team Pickleball Store and Team PicklePlay have both guaranteed themselves semi-final places whilst the remaining 4 teams will be seeded and will have to battle it out through quarter-finals.
The final will be held on the 28th of April 2024 at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.
